It's All About ME!

Following a post from Jon, over at 'Overbombing', I thought today I'd give you a little more of an insight into my world. A question was also raised by Clair on anonymous blogs, (of which this is one if you hadn't noticed) that I'd like to address. I'll also talk about the viewing of an anonymous blog by a spouse. Then it'll be lunch. Any questions? No? Good. The fire exits are over there by the link to Five Centres blog. There's no planned fire drill today, so if you hear an alarm, it's real. Right. Where was I?

  • Why did you start blogging and why do you continue?

I started blogging following my discovery of Andrew Collin's radio show on 6Music. I found his blog on their website and followed it 0ver to blogspot when it moved. I started blogging because I felt a bit selfish about leaving comments and not giving anything of myself. I chose an anonymous blog because I have a slightly sensitive job, and didn't want anything I said coming back to haunt me. I then made a decision not to ever blog about work, or to say anything controversial. I hold no aspirations to be a writer. I chose the name, as I've said before, because of conversation I had aged seventeen, about good names for Goth bands, and because the blog was born on Valentine's Day. Suicide may be in my name, but it is not in my nature.

I have no idea why I continue. I Sometimes I wonder whether to. Given the self-imposed limitations, it's amazing I find anything to write about.

My spouse knows about this page, but doesn't bother with it. "...it's just one of those things he gets into, like canoeing, online gaming and international diamond smuggling".

  • How do you decide what to blog about?

I'm not sure. Like everyone else I suppose something just catches your attention at the right time. I'm not very good at the 'comment' stuff that Five-Centres and The Urban Woo do so well. I can't express my rants in the enjoyably focused way that the Bright Ambassador does. I'm even worse at the minutiae or observational material that ishouldbewalking excels at. I'm generally aiming at 'mildly amusing' and missing.

I have some specific 'darkness' going on in my life at the moment. I'm not going to peddle that on these fluffy pages but it's why I've been so lackadaisical recently.

  • Do you write straight out or pre-plan what you’re going to write?

Straight out. As it's mostly hastily cobbled together and recently just plain lazy. I generally have a couple of posts on the go to get my thoughts straight. I rarely publish these.

  • Do you censor yourself?

No. Yes.

Nooooo! Of course not...

(Unless you're a student in London? In which case WE'RE WATCHING YOU. NOW.)

Damn, you're watching me. Bastard. And I though you had no intranational remit.

To be honest John q, since 'Spooks' the other lot are all tied up on tv consultancy. Leaving the hard student stakeout' work to 'ver 6'.

Enjoyably focused rants? I like that. Thank you.

I'd like to assure everyone out there that I am in fact quite nice, but I do love a good rant. Who doesn't?

What is 'lunch', by the way?

Great post. I think you're being modest, mind: I came to your blog late last summer via Andrew Collins' one and the first post I read was the one about the supermarket, which had me laughing out loud. "Mildly amusing and failing?" Bollocks.

Don't you think that your self-imposed restrictions actually force you to be that bit more creative in your posts? I find that a lot of blogs where people detail their daily life, work and all, can be pretty dull.

Yeah, I think you're being VERY hard on yourself there, Buddy. I hate putting 'LoL' on things, but I have, frequently, Laughed Out Loud at many of your sly observations. Keep 'em coming.

Aside from your high quality blogging, I love your blog's name. It's the best. No, really.

I enjoy your bog because you seem like a decent sort. It doesn't seem to matter what you do/don't write about.

(Sorry to hear you've got bad stuff going on).

You're a thieving bastard is what you are. Thief!

And I reckon you've gone down the anonymous route because you're a spineless coward.

AND you're probably too mean to shell out for heating.

AND you're undoubtedly Scotch. That lot wouldn't put their hands in their pockets if their lives depended on it. The animals.

On a slightly more relevant point, I'm fucked if I ever need to get a proper job - what with my name splashed all over my foul opinions. Ah well ... at least I'm not a LILLY-LIVERED THIEF!

Good morning, by the way.

You're too kind.

Like you, I've had the odd crisis of conscience too, and toyed with giving it all up. But it's a nice outlet for witterings.

Don't stop now. You've gone too far to turn back. And I enjoy it.

Let me add to the love-in.

You rock.

It's not a total love-in. I'd have him strung up if the bugger divulged his location. HITLER HAD THE RIGHT IDEA! THAT'S RIGHT - HITLER!

Thank you all for your kind words. I've decided to rename the blog to 'Fishing For Compliments'.

BA, it's Shepherds Pie for lunch. It's always bloody Shepherds Pie.
