Bah Humblog!

Lots of blogs are talking about favourite Christmas music for some reason. So with a passing bandwagon and my best jumping shoes, here are the VS ones:-

None.

I hate them all. You can keep the lot of them. I have to wear my iPod constantly at this time of year to hold at bay the inevitable psychosis. The absolute worst for me is Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. If I hear that, even once, the puppy gets it.

There are two non-Christmas songs that do creep onto a playlist at this time year. One is Christmas Card From A Hooker in Minneapolis by Tom Waits which is full of fabulous seasonal misery. The other is Walk Out To Winter by Aztec Camera, which is just fabulous.

So there!

(Actually there is one I like. See below.)

Yeah, I mostly agree, but "Fairytale of New York" still sounds great after 20 years.

Also, I reckon "Merry Xmas Everybody" by Slade is the Xmas song that really "gets" Xmas, in the sense that -if we're honest - Xmas for most people is not about sleigh bells, winter wonderlands or mistletoe and wine, it's about Quality Street, getting hooched up on cheap wine and the BBC showing their big film at 8:00pm that everyone saw 3 years before in the cinema.

So my favourite is your least favourite. Scrooge.

You miserable shithouse! P'raps you'd feel more inclined to join in with the festivities and the songs if you weren't leeching every last penny you can off us law-abiding citizens, you benefits-scrounging wastrel. It makes my blood boil how you people have kids, get given a big house, then spend all day smoking and watching television. Get up off your arse and get a job! If I had my way, I'd give your sort nothing, d'ye hear? NOTHING!

One more over here who thinks that "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses could be used by Counter-Intelligence to extract confessions from insurgency suspects. If I was forced to listen to more than ten seconds of it, I'd tell 'em everything they wanted to know.

'Lonely This Christmas' by Mud is good, though. A miserable song for a miserable season. Tells it like it really is.

TP, I'll grudgingly just about pass Fairytale, but not Slade.

5C You're going to have to come to terms with your fundamental wrongness about Christmas Wrapping. Sorry.

bpp, you call it "benefits-scrounging", I call it 'taking full advantage of certain loopholes in the welfare state'. If you weren't so against the common market, you'd give up your job designing cars for British Leyland and join me in the fight against ...erm...'The Man'

isbw, you're as right as 5C is wrong. AND you're even Scroogier than I am. I'm only turning my back on Xmas. You're turning your back, running to the airport and catching the next plane to Benidorm.

PM, No more Christmas songs. I've got my one song and I'm going to play it until I crack.

I've always been quite partial to All I Want For Christmas Is a Dukla Prague Away Kit by Half Man Half Biscuit, and also I Want An Alien For Christmas by Fountains of Wayne. I sang the latter so much at Christmas 2001 that the Natural Blonde bought me a green inflatable 6ft alien.

I'd forgotten about I Want An Alien For Christmas by Fountains of Wayne. But, because I don't want to be seen to be doing a U-turn, I'm going to pretend I don't like it.

No integrity whatsoever me.

I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of Christmas Songs but I now have that song by the Waitresses firmly planted in my head. Ask me anything and I will confess.
