Back When?

I was caught by a Proustian flashback a couple of days ago and was transported to the mid-nineties by a snatch of song that this time last week I didn't even remember.

These, I suppose, were the Britpop years when Oasis and Blur vied for supremacy, we saw the rise of lad culture epitomised by the swaggering younger Gallagher (preaching Lennon's peace and love in-between bar brawls) and Chris Evans ego was so far out of control on the Radio One breakfast show, he's having to serve a life-sentence being ultra-bland on Radio Two drive-time.

Good or bad, I have fond memories of this time. Madame Suicide and I were in the early flushes of romance, spending time travelling the 120 miles between our homes and we were going to a lot of gigs. These best of these were Supergrass in Wolverhampton, Placebo in Leicester and Mansun in their home town of Chester. We also took in some more standard fare with Ocean Colour Scene, Gene (who?) Shed Seven and Catatonia. Most of these bands have fallen by the wayside, or if they haven't I've long since lost touch with their careers.

Anyway, here's the song, I didn't care for the band, couldn't name another of their tracks, but this rocks.

Doesn't ring any bells. I would listen to it again to try and ring them, but I value my ears to highly.

Evans may have been an ego, but his impact on Radio 1 was spectacular.

I've been to bed, so thought I'd give this post another go. I got as far as 'Proustian flashback', then smashed my computer up. You pretentious bastard.

(And old liar)
