Whilst about my business today I came across the below poster,
which rather flummoxed me. Who'd have thought there was a market for a David Essex tribute artist? I'm rather reminded of the Simpson's gag. A poster outside Springfield concert hall reads:-" Tonite - Moody Blues Tribute Band
plus support act The Moody Blues"
Mr Essex himself adorns the cover of the issue of Jackie, (originally published Feb 15th 1975) free with todays Guardian. They're giving away a classic comic every day next week. What a great idea. I'm looking forward to the Whizzer and Chips with an enthusiasm bordering on rabies.
Whilst we're in the early seventies, Mondo and Piley were reminiscing on Podrophenia 3 (available free on iTunes) about the late, great Brian Connolly and lack of recognition and retro-respect. I've got a huge affection for Sweet. Wig Wam Bam was the first record I ever owned.
Piley described him as 'a beautiful man'.

Cheers for the shouty VS have you seen this not that I was much of Look-In reader Whizzer and Chips, Whoopee and Krazy were my regular reads..
I was never much of a Look-In fan. I'm just leafing through today's Observer-supplied Beano.
I used to like Shiver and Shake, which I think got incorporated into Whoopee.
My dad got Look and Learn for us to read. Which we hated.
I got a Whizzer and Chips annual for a quid on Ebay last year. It was one I originally owned (not that actual copy) and it still made me laugh aloud. Why not treat yourself to an auction dabble?
I'd have loved to see that David Essex tribute act, you know. They certainly shelled out on the publicity, so he must have been pretty special.
