Snake oil

I don't get coffee. It's a fairly banal drink, and the vast array of variations appear to me to be just indifferent versions of the same blandness. I don't know what a 'good' cup of coffee is. I've drunk various supposed exotic long milky versions and short dark types, but don't find them any more agreeable than a spoonful out of jar. There's isn't the variety and depth that exists with beer and wine. I also don't believe I've lost a minute's sleep or had a moment's hyperactivity after too many cups. I dislike McCoffee shop culture, what so special about bloody Starbucks? It's not a lifestyle, it's a leg resting opportunity for shoppers.

Brown bagging it

I work in an environment where it can be sometimes be difficult to get away. We have problems to fix and we're up against the clock. Trouble is if I don't eat things, I can get all weird and shaky. I think there may be a medical term for this, but I'm too weird and shaky to look it up.

So I've taken to making a packed lunch. Something I haven't done since childhood, when I became adverse to school meals. It a bit dull though. A plain ham sandwich on brown bread, some grapes and a packet of ready salted. What can I do to liven it up? Apart from driving to McDonalds and adding a cheeseburger.

Lawks..

..it's a million o'clock on Sunday night. I still can't bring myself to admit that the weekend is over, and I have to sleep and go to work. What's wrong with me?

Music for pleasure

I'm enjoying the new Arcade Fire album immensely. Seems a little more accessible and immediate than Neon Bible. How odd that band so seemingly obscure, should become so huge. Refreshing in an industry where 'artists' are ushered into studios by Simon Cowell to make money, rather than music. I also have tickets to their show in Birmingham, which is in an arena. I hate arena gigs, but needs must.

I've also rediscovered the album 'Ignorance' by Boo Hewerdine, which I bought in 1992, and loved. I then lent it to my sister, and came across again it last month. Lovely.
He has a nice blog. Which is here.

So it goes..

So it's that day of the year again. Time to offer up a prayer.
Dear Jeebus, please allow us to win the Premier League this season. Or at least finish in the top six. Or at least maybe get one or two unexpected victories against the bigger clubs. Or at least have some success against the clubs around us in the lower half of the table. Or at least achieve a couple wins. Or at least, maybe, give a couple of decent performances. Or at least that allow the team to try as hard as they can. Or at least that the perpetual whining shitbag who has been seated behind me for years has decided to call it a day. Amen.
